Sachin Tendulkar's Kerala Blasters have registered their first win in the Indian Super League. They beat Pune City in their own home ground for 2 against 1. Kerala's win came after trailing behind one goal in the early minutes of the game.
Sabeeth and Nigerian midfielder Penn Orji are the scorers of Kerala while Former French super player David Treseguet scored the relief goal of Pune. Sabeeth's Goal is the first Super League goal registered by a Malayali player. Birthday boy Iain Hume won his second Hero of the Match award in a row. He was the engine of Blaster's attacks.
Sabeeth won the award for Emerging Player.
The Pune City took control of the game from the start. They had a majority of ball possession and attacks. From a mistake from the Kerala defence, David Treseguet scored the first goal of the match in 15th minute. The goal came from a freekick taken by John Goussons. Blasters goal keeper David James couldn't block the powerful shot from Treseguet.
After the goal, Kerala Blasters woke up. The took back the control of the game gradually. It was the fourth game in a row, they yielded a goal first. Iaking inspiration from the last game they returned strongly. They became more creative on the ground and good attacks formed.
When Ishfaq Ahmed replaced Renedy Singh, the Blasters attacks assumed new sharpness. Sabeeth spoiled a golden chance in 40th minute but in the next minute, he scored the equalizer from a corner kick taken by Stephen Pearson.
The goal brought new energy level to Blasters and they took the reign of the game quickly. Miligres Gonsalves and Penn Orji came as substitutes. The Kerala forwards continued to make dangerous situations in the Pune penalty box. By then, Pune replaced their injured keeper Bellardi with Arindam Bhattacharya. But it never affected Kerala as they scored the winning goal in 65th minute. Penn Orji, who had just entered the ground, was the goal scorer. It was born from a brilliant cross from Iain Hume. It saw Blasters leading for the first time in the league and they never spoiled it. They got numerous chances again to raise the lead but couldn't execute them well.
Iain Hume once again proved why he was the hero of Blasters. Their chances heavily depend on this Canadian player. Kerala Blasters are now placed fifth on the points table with four points from as many matches. If they keep up this form, they will surely make it to the top soon.
The two-time ISL runners-up are not having the best of the result so far. The team is slowly, and steadily restoring the parity, and these stars, both overseas, and homegrown, have played contributed immensely to their gamepaly.
