Day by day the last chances of Kolkata Knight Riders in entering the semi-finals was fading away. They made a comeback against Delhi Dare Devils in the match in Feroz Shah Kotla stadium played on 7th May, 2014.
Delhi Dare Devils made a good score of 160 runs in the 20 overs. But Kolkata Knight Riders chased the runs and won the match with 8 wickets. Karthik and Duminy played well for Delhi Dare Devils. Karthik made 36 runs. Duminy remained unbeaten on 40 runs with 3 sixes.
Kolkata Knight Riders played sensibly this time.
The opening was very cautiously done without playing risky shots. Robin Utthappa scored 47 runs of 34 balls with 5 fours and one six. Gautam Gambhir scored the best innings of this IPL 2014 with 69 runs in 56 balls with 5 fours and two sixes. The majority of runs came from cricketing shots. There was hardly any slogging. He gave one chance of being caught behind. But Karthik missed the catch. After that the innings was chanceless. Robin Utthappa gave able support. He did not try to curve out extravagant shots and lose his wicket. The entire team had been criticised a lot after losing the last match inspite of having everything under control when the two openers gave a century stand. This time they learned from the earlier mistake.
Manoj Pandey and Jack Kallis finished the game in style. Manoj Pandey scored 23 runs and remained unbeaten. Jack Kallis remained unbeaten on 10 runs. The bowling of Delhi Dare Devils was not that impressive. Duminy had to bowl too many overs and his spin bowling was not that effective.
Kolkata Knight Riders are blessed that some of their next group of matches are going to be played in Kolkata which is the home ground. In that ground Sunil Narine and Shakib will be more effective that the other grounds. But Kolkata Knight Riders are required to win all their remaining matches. Otherwise there is no hope of entering the semi-finals with Kings Eleven Punjab, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals way ahead in the points table.
On the other hand Delhi Dare Devils did not get positive results in the matches played in Feroz Shah Kotla ground. That is there home ground and Delhi Dare Devils are losing matches in the home ground. That will make their task of winning the matches in the other stadiums even harder.
