Meet this other brilliant top scorer of FIFA World Cup from Czech Republic!
Another country from the list of aspiring FIFA World Cup Champions is this republican soil from Europe, Czech Republic, which had shown spectacular play on their first appearance in the second FIFA World Cup in the year 1934. Advancing until the final, Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia during that time) had faced another European country, Italy, losing their chance with the final score of 2-1 in grabbing the title in that year’s World Cup. Another brilliant game performance made by this national team was recorded during the 7th World Cup in the year 1962 colliding with one of the toughest team in South American region, Brazil, taking away again their hope to snatch their first title. Since then, this national team had just reached their highest round in the 1990 FIFA World Cup when they attained the quarterfinal round of the tournament in that year.
Considering their achievements in the most prestigious soccer tournament, it is inevitable that one of the top scorers of FIFA World Cup had come from this republican team and that is in the person of Oldrich Nejedley with a total of seven goals in the scorebook of World Cup.
On the first appearance of their national team in FIFA World Cup, Oldrich was one of the forward players who had helped his team to reach until the final match in the year 1934. During the round-of-16 match against Romania, this forward had scored in the 67th minute of their game bringing them into a winning score of 2-1. Another goal that had helped his team to defeat the national team of Switzerland in the quarterfinal match was scored by Nejedley in the 82nd minute concluding in the score of 3-2.
With a hat trick record in their match against West Germany during the semi-final match, Oldrich Nejedley had surely assisted their team to advance in the final match with a score of 3-1. However, their team had failed to claim the title against the Italian team in the final match in a final score of 2-1.
On the second appearance of Czech Republic in the 1938 FIFA World Cup, Oldrich had score another two goals against Netherlands in the round-of-16 and against the Brazilian team in the quarterfinal round of the tournament.
This one of the great players who had participated in causing a shout from the crowd during the season of World Cup will not be forgotten by the clubs he had played in his soccer career. In his senior career, he played for a total of 187 matches for the club Sparta Prague for ten years from 1931 up to 1941 leaving a record of 162 goals. Another soccer team that had witnessed the greatness of this player was the SK Rakovnik for a total of 38 matches kicking in 18 goals in his appearance from the year 1942 until 1946.
At the age of 80, Oldrich Nejedley passed away in Rakovnik, Czechoslovakia leaving a legacy that will not be failed to remember in the world of soccer.
