Aswin, the best off-spinner of India gave 38 runs in 2 overs. Ravindra Jadeja gave 37 runs in 3 overs. I Pandey gave 41 runs in 4 overs. Mohit Sharma was better in the first spell but also gave 38 runs of 4 overs. Maxwell could not score a century as his huge hit was caught by Ravindra Jadeja at the boundary line. By that time the morale of Chennai Super Kings were destroyed. He was given able support by Miller and Bailey. Miller scored 47 runs of 32 with 5 fours and 2 sixes. Bailey scored 40 runs of 13 balls and remained unbeaten with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Kings Eleven Punjab scored 231 runs in 20 overs.
The target was so huge that Chennai Super Kings at no point in the match looked like chasing the total. All the batsmen in the team played well and at the end Chennai Super Kings lost the match by 44 runs. McCullum scored 33 runs, Suresh Raina scored 35 runs, Du Plessis scored 52 runs, but the asking rate was unmanageable. The match ended up being one-sided.
Maxwell’s performance till now had been the best in any IPL. Neither the innings of Gayle, nor Pollard, nor McCullum in the previous IPLs could match the brilliance of Maxwell. He should reserve his shivalry for the semi-finals and knock out matches. If Kings Eleven Punjab ever wins an IPL tournament this is their best chance. Preity Zinta had been looking for the trophy for the last 6 years. She can keep her fingers crossed.
