The article speaks about the chances of India defeating South Africa in the T20 World Cup Semi-finals in Bangladesh. India is a better team in a spinning conditions having better spinners and better batsmen.
Indian team is the best team in the T20 World Cup so far. They start as favourites in the semi-finals against South Africa in Bangladesh.
The reasons are very obvious. India had shown great consistency in batting. There are more than 4 to 5 batsmen in the team who can bring victory alone like Shikhar Dhawan, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma. Yuvraj Singh had also picked up form. South Africa on the other hand are very much dependent on AB Devilliers and Duminy.
Retirement of great all-rounder Jack Kallis and captain Graham Smith had been a great blow to the team. There was a time during Cronje and Pollock’s captainship when South Africa used to play with many match-winners like Lance Klusener, Jhonty Rhodes, Daryll Cullinan and others. Those days are history at the moment.
The biggest reason why India has an edge is due to the great spin attack of the country. Amit Mishra is the best spinner of T20 world cup in Bangladesh. His 4 overs are absolutely unplayable. Either the opposition has to respect him or lose 2 to 3 wickets during his spell. Although Ravindra Jadeja had gone for a lot of runs, but Ravichandran Ashwin had been consistent. 12 overs of the spinners are creating pains for all the teams in the T20 world cup. Not only that, Indian batsmen are good players of spin. The way Dhoni, or Rohit Sharma play spin bowlers, De Cock or Duplessis cannot play.
South African spinners are very mediocre in that context. The only spinner who has some capability of turning the ball is Imran Tahir. Duminy is a part time bowler who can hardly create any pressure to the Indian batsmen.
South Africa only excel against India in the fielding department. The fielding capability of De Villiars, Duminy are awesome. They are even better than good Indian fielders like Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and others.
Dale Steyn is a great fast bowler. Even in the slow pitches of Bangladesh he can swing the ball and that too at a fast pace. Steyn should be respected in the shorter version of the game. If India can play out his 4 overs without losing wicket there is not a single bowler who can create any pressure in conditions in Bangladesh. But the last 15 matches had shown that those teams are destined to do well, which have good spinners, at least in Bangladesh.
