Mumbai Indians are having very bad time in IPL 2014. With losses one after the other, it is becoming impossible for the team to qualify for the semi-finals.
On 30th April, 2014, Sunrisers Hyderabad did put in a decent score of 172 runs on the board. Warner scored 65 runs while Rahul scored 46 runs. One of the reasons why Mumbai Indians are losing matches after matches is due to the failure of the bowlers of creating any impression. Other than Zahir Khan and Harbhajan Singh all the bowlers went for huge amount of runs. Even Malinga who was considered to be one of the strike bowlers at the beginning of the tournament is not considered to be a threat.
The intelligent teams are playing his first spell and cautiously not losing wickets in his overs. The same thing happened on 30th April, 2014. Pragyan Ojha and Pollard were hammered to different parts of the field.
After the failure in bowling came the bigger challenge of batting. Rohit Sharma and Anderson days after days flopped. With their failure tremendous pressure was created on the middle order. The amount of time that was wasted in doing the recovery work by Pollard and Rayadu the match went out of hand.
Only in one of the overs of Amit Mishra, Pollard showed his heroics. He scored 3 huge sixes and a hard-hitting boundary. But that was not enough. In the next over of Dale Steyn, Pollard and Tare failed miserably. In that over they scored only 4 runs. Pollard eventually got out after scoring 78 runs of 48 runs. Rayadu scored 35 runs and got out. Mumbai Indians could only score 157 runs and lost the match by 15 runs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad had been successful in the tournament due to sharp spell of bowling of some of the finest bowlers in the world. Steyn is undoubtedly the best fast bowler. And he proved his reputation by bowling Yorkers at the end overs. Bhubaneshwar Kumar is not fast. But on 30th April, 2014, he bowled wicket to wicket. He did not give any room for the batsmen to free their arms.
Unless Mumbai Indians make huge change in their team composition there is no hope in IPL 2014. Sunrisers Hyderabad requires consistent batting. IPL is a tournament of consistency. Those teams who play well in certain intervals and fail in the others are not destined to go to the semi-finals.
