On 20th April, 2014, Rajasthan Royals posted a brilliant score of 191 runs on the board in 20 overs. The score was almost not chaseable. Samson scored 52 runs in 34 balls with 3 boundaries and 4 sixes. Watson scored 50 runs in 29 balls with 5 boundaries and 3 sixes. All the bowlers of Kings Eleven Punjab were hammered to different parts of the park.
Awana gave 40 runs in his 4 overs. Balaji gave 46 runs in his 4 overs. Murali Karthik was the most expensive bowler giving 51 runs in 4 overs.
It looked like Kings Eleven Punjab would absolutely fail in the run chase. Sehwag was dismissed for 2 runs while Hriddhiman Saha was also dismissed for 2 runs. But from that time Maxwell and Pujara gave a winning stand. Maxwell went on with his attacking style. Pujara took odd singles and gave stand to Maxwell. Maxwell scored 89 runs in 45 balls with 8 boundaries and 6 sixes. The great part of Maxwell’s innings was his ability to place the balls in both on side and off side. He did not try to play unconventional strokes. It was one of his immortal innings.
From where Maxwell left, Miller started. Pujara on the other side ensured that wickets never tumbled on the other side leading to waste of balls. Miller reminds of Lance Klusener with his ability to hit the ball very hard. Miller remained unbeaten on 51 runs in 19 balls with 6 sixes. Pujara remained unbeaten on 40 runs in 38 balls with 3 boundaries. Rajat Bhatia, Faulkner, Kulkarni all went for a lot of runs.
The way Kings Eleven Punjab is chasing targets, every team of IPL 2014 will get scared of the team. The last day Kings Eleven Punjab chased more than 205 runs against Chennai Super Kings. They had not been tested against big teams like Royal challengers Bengaluru.
Only one thing is really going to pain Kings Eleven Punjab is the amount of runs the bowlers are giving. The team lacks one of the strike bowlers of the callibre of Sunil Narine. His spinning abilities can create threat. They also don’t have bowlers like Lasith Malinga who is an expert in giving in-swing Yorkers.
But the batting effort of Maxwell, Pujara and Miller had been extra-ordinary. Viewers want Sehwag, Bailey to also strike very soon.
