Sports that help you keep in shape in winter

In cold winters, leaves of most trees wither and fall and lots of creatures go into hibernation. Mother Nature doesn’t look as alive as in other seasons. Like nature, Human beings are also indolent in winters. However, people usually have good appetites in winter, which makes it easy to gain weight. Therefore, it is more important to play some sports if you want to keep in shape in winter. In fact, since your body consumes more energy in cold time, with appropriate exercises, you can take advantage of winter to shake off some extra fat from your body.

What sports you can do in winter depends very much on the latitude of the place you live in.

For those who live in tropics, they can enjoy the same sports in winter as they do in other seasons. For people who live in temperate zones where the four seasons have distinct differences, they can choose bike riding, rope skipping, jogging, etc. And for residents whose living places are in extreme cold areas, they can choose some indoor exercises. Another factor one should take into account when choosing the right winter sports is the age and physical condition. For example: youngsters can choose running; middle-aged people can select quick walking, jogging, climbing the stairs; Elders can take yoga or shadowboxing as their winter activities.

Skiing

Skiing is a sport that can make your whole body moves. It can improve your balanced capacity, coordination and flexibility. In skiing, joints of almost all parts of your body: head, neck, hands, shoulder, legs, ankles, etc. can have training. Therefore, if you have access to any skiing park, you can enjoy the pleasure brought by skiing.

Jogging

Jogging is an ideal activity in winter, especially for middle-aged and aged people. It can enhance blood circulation, improve cardiac functions, and reduce the probability of cerebral arteriosclerosis. Matters needing attention in jogging: First, you should choose right shoes (no leather shoes or plastic soled shoes) and loose clothes for the sport. Try to jog on smooth roads. If you are jogging on tarred roads or concrete roads, you’d better wear platform shoes. Secondly, do it in right way. Before the exercise, you should walk for some distance, take deep breath, and allow full play to your joints. While you are jogging, you should keep muscles relaxed and have slow and cadent breath.

Winter swimming

Winter swimming refers to the activity of swimming in outdoor environments, including rivers, lakes, sea in winter seasons. Benefits of winter swimming: It can improve cardiovascular functions. Low water temperature stimulates blood circulation, therefore enhances the blood vessel flexibility. There are very few people who suffer from arteriosclerosis or high blood pressure in winter swimmers. Winter swimming can also improve one’s immunizing power. Matters needing attention in winter swimming: Though more and more people realize the benefits of winter swimming and join this activity, not all groups of people are suitable to enjoy it. These people include: children under the age of 16 and elders over 70, those who suffer from heart diseases, tuberculosis, or respiratory diseases. But “not suitable” doesn’t equal absolutely “no-no”. In fact, there are lots of children and elders over 80 who benefit a lot from winter swimming.

Indoor activities in winter

If severe coldness or heavy snows prevent you from doing sports outside of the house, you can choose some indoor exercises. Ping-pong, badminton, rope skipping are all nice choices. For ladies who want to possess soft and sexy bodies, dancing and Yoga can help them in great shape

Things should be taken care of when you are doing sports in winter

To prevent occurrences of muscle or joint strains, before doing sports, especially outdoor activities, you should do enough warm-ups. Thickness of the clothes should be moderate. At the beginning, you should take more clothes that are soft and not tight. After the warm-up, you should take off some thick clothes. If you sweat a lot, you should wipe the sweats without delay and go back to room to change into dry clothes. Some people keep their gym rooms tightly closed in winter. If doing sports in such conditions, one will feel dazed, tired and sick, especially when the room is filled with people. Therefore, you should ensure the adequate ventilation of the room.

More and more people realize the importance of keeping in shape through doing sports. Try to find a set of winter activities suitable for you, and more importantly, stick to the fitness regime. Winter should not be an excuse to gain weight and be idle, you can live a life as colorfully in winter as in other seasons.
