Day by day the performance of Kolkata Knight Riders is getting bad to worst. They restricted Rajasthan Royals to a decent total of 170 runs in 20 overs in the match of IPL 2014 at Ahmedabad on 5th May, 2014.
But due to disgusting batting the team collapsed and lost the match by 10 runs. Gautam Gambhir, the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders gave a good opening with 54 runs in 34 balls. He did hit 6 boundaries and 1 over boundary. Robin Utthappa, the other opener did a great job by scoring 65 runs of 52 balls with 5 boundaries and 3 over-boundaries. The team gave an opening stand of 121 runs.
From there they required only another 50 runs to finish of the proceedings. The asking rate was also not that bad.
From there it required absolute disgusting batting to lose the match. Kolkata Knight Riders did that. The batsmen were absolutely shamless. In this match Jack Kallis did not play. In his absence the middle order represented a bunch of hopeless batsmen who had come for doing a picnic in the field. Russel scored 1 run. Manoj Pandey got dismissed for a huge duck. Yusuf Pathan and Ten Doeschaet went for ducks.
Due to their irresponsible stroke play Tambe scored a hatrick. Players like Yusuf Pathan should be given retirement. They are absolutely useless in this format of the game. If he scores runs in one match then goes cheaply in 5 matches. Shahrukh Khan had spend money in respect of a bunch of shameless cricketers who have no commitment towards their teams. In at least three matches which were close enough Kolkata Knight Riders had lost the matches due to lack of seriousness of the batsmen. None of the batsmen in this lot is learning any lessons.
On the other hand Rajasthan Royals played sensibly. They did put up a decent score of 170 runs in the board. Rahane scored 30 runs. KK Nair scored 44 runs. They created a platform where the middle order batsmen could come and accelerate the scoring. Samson scored 37 runs of 31 balls. Watson scored 31 runs of 20 balls with 2 boundaries and 2 over-boundaries. Other than Sunil Narine and Shakib Al Hasan the rest of the bowlers were hammered to different parts of the field.
Rajasthan Royals has absolute chance of getting into the semi-finals. Kolkata Knight Riders should sack players like Manoj Pandey, Yusuf Pathan and others. That will not help them, because they are already out of the tournament. But the viewers can get relieved from seeing shameless batting.
